Music Video Analysis - Basshunter All I Ever Wanted

I have chosen to analyse the video from Basshunter called "All I Ever Wanted" this video is about a group of partners who go on a typical fun filled Holiday. I chose to analyse this video because their music is the type i like and it is a great song with a good video. This song comes across to both male and female audiences of a young age as it a song which can easily be danced to by each sex and the video is also of a stereotypical holiday for a boy and a girl so each can relate to it and enjoy it. The video is easy to identify from the off as it shows the two main characters of the video kissing and the opening line is "All i ever wanted is too see you smiling" this shows that they are in love and because of the man singing the song it seems as though it is what the boy wants for the girl.
I will start off by analysing the camera shots in this video. The video starts off with a master shot of both the main characters kissing setting the scene and letting us know that they are a couple, the scene then switches to them all riding on scooters this is shown using a medium - long shot so they can fit in everyone but this shot shows again who the main characters are because they are the two on the scooter in the middle and closest to the camera the middle spot is stereotypical to the leader and so helps to identify them as the main characters. The video consists mainly of medium shots and groups shots as it is showing the couple and the group, there is a group shot when they are all in the pool having a water fight, this is stereotypical of a group of young adults when on holiday having fun. There are also quite a few close ups in the video usually of the female body which supports Laura Mulvey's theory of the male gaze, these types of shots will attract men to watch this video and these shots can also be seen as showing lack of respect towards. There is a few extreme close ups of a mobile phone once when taking a picture and another look at the text, the phone is shown with the women watching a video of her boyfriend when she receives a text from him explaining, this then gives us a reaction shot of her face which shows she is upset. We also have over the shoulder shots of when they are together which are also close ups showing us their emotion which was laughing or smiling, this gave the impression they were very happy together but can easily fall out like shown and is another stereotypical process which happens with young couples. There are more close ups shown when they are all dancing in the club mainly of the female body again as well as some group shots, again loud music, dancing and drinking are all stereotypical actions of young adults.
In this next paragraph i will talk about costumes, props, make-up actors/actresses. This video is very stereotypical and the costumes are a big part of it as well as the characters, in this video the women are seen mainly in bikinis' short skirts and revealing clothing. All this is stereotypical of young women in one scene we see the main women getting changed in front of her boyfriend trying on many different outfits all equally revealing. This women has also been chosen for these types of videos because of how she looks, she is a very good looking women and is shown as a stereotypical one as in one scene she gets wet and seems to not like it maybe showing she is stuck up but she then lets it go and joins in but it shows a hint of her been full of herself. She has been made to always look good with make-up being used on her as it is in her character to look good and this can be shown by the type of video it is because on holiday they have an excuse to show off her body in the pool and skimpy outfits when going out clubbing. Also in the pool scene there are props used by the boys, water pistols which show that they are a little immature but is also stereotypical of boys to be a little immature.
In this next paragraph i will speak about the editing used in this music video. In this video there are many times when an ellipsis is used as it is a very easy way to pass time, it is used when a scene ends and cuts to another scene the time has changed for example in this video they are riding scooters and then the scene skips and they have reached their destination. Also in the clip they use an action match where the women is starting to walk up the steps to get out of the pool and then a quick cut scene and she is out of the pool. We also have cut scenes to see who is actually singing the song and at the end he is the DJ.
I will now speak about how sound was used in this clip. Throughout most of the clip the people that it is showing cannot hear any of the music as it is non diegetic sound but we can see who is singing it as we get cut shots of him singing every so often. At the end of the clip though they are in a club and can hear the same song we can as we can see the same singer from the cut scenes we saw him in as the DJ and we see him singing the song.
